The dependence of Indian women’s singles badminton on PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal has now been apparent for a while. In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the women’s singles badminton final was played out between PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. Subsequently, at the 2022 CWG in Birmingham, Sindhu clinched the gold medal, which begs the question why no other female Indian player could qualify for the final after a gap of 4 years, or even leave a substantial mark.
Treesa Jolly has travelled a long way, both figuratively and otherwise, from Cherupuzha in Kerala, to where she finds herself today. Her journey has humble beginnings, and started from a mud volleyball court at home, and included mentoring from a PE teacher, followed by the initiative of a coach to finally become a badminton star.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have just won India it’s maiden Men’s Doubles World Medal, with their quarterfinal victory over Japan’s TakuroHoki and Yugo Kobayashi, who are also the defending champions. The Japanese duo had previously won silver and gold at the 2019 and 2021 editions of the World Championship andwere the favourites leading up to the quarterfinals.
It's a real back-breaking task to defeat a 14-time champion in any game. Mainly it becomes more tough when a debut team has to face the champions. Not bothering much about the champions the Indian men's badminton team faced the champions fiercely and created history by winning the match.
