Shaheen Shah Afridi: Pakistan's Cricket Hero
"Shaheen Shah Afridi says having local players in Lahore Qalandars is really important. He doesn't think that not having overseas players is making the PSL less popular. Afridi became famous fast, but people who watched him early on saw it coming. He didn't just come from Lahore Qalandars' Player Development Programme, but it was the PSL that really got him noticed. Afridi says Lahore gave him a good start.
As the captain of Qalandars, Afridi led the team to two wins in a row, making them the best in the PSL. Even though they lost the first games this season, Afridi still believes they can do well. He talks about how important it is to have Pakistani players, especially since many overseas players couldn't come this time.
Qalandars used to focus a lot on getting big overseas players, but now they're more about Pakistani players. Afridi also became the captain of Pakistan's T20 team because of his success with Qalandars. He says being a captain isn't that different between a franchise and national team.
While visibly weary of the lingering questions around his pace, Afridi says bowling every ball at over 145kph is "not a way any bowler bowls" in T20 cricket.
Afridi talks about how important it is for everyone in the team to get along. He also says he doesn't need to bowl super fast all the time in T20 cricket. Afridi knows that cricket is a big deal in Pakistan, especially when things are tough.
Overall, Afridi's story shows how cricket can bring joy to people, even when times are hard."
