Which NBA teams will try to acquire Wembanyama?

While Victor Wembanyama is being to be the next LeBron James or Tim Duncan and has also been considered to be the most popular draft prospect since James, the number of teams that could line up to acquire him is surprisingly less. The French player recently demonstrated his impressive skills against G League Ignite and scored 37 and 36 points in two games. Of all the teams in the NBA, there are three with only a 14% probability of acquiring Wembanyama, which includes the bottom three teams, the San Antonio Spurs (who recently let go of Dejounte Murray), the Utah Jazz (who removed both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell) and the Houston Rockets.

These teams have seemingly moved away from acquiring big names and are unlikely to bid for Wembanyama. Oklahoma City Thunder is also expected to follow a similar path.

According to predictions, many teams may also “tank” and perform badly to have a shot at the top draft next season. This strategy is however not going to work for Orlando Magic who are looking to improve their performance and could try to acquire Wembanyama.

Similarly, the Indiana Pacers and the Charlotte Hornets, who have recently missed out on players like LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, could be another destination. The Sacramento Kings have also been trying to reinvigorate their team to qualify to the playoffs, with the manager Monte McNair facing a potential expulsion if they fail to do so. Overall, as the season progresses it is expected that an increasing number of teams will try to tank and neutralize their talent, in hopes of landing Wembanyama.
