ICC Men's World Cup 2023
South Africa's Quinton de Kock surpasses Kohli as the leading CWC run scorer.
South Africa's Quinton de Kock has once again excelled in the ODI World Cup as he scored his third ton in the ongoing ODI World Cup against Bangladesh.
The contest played on Tuesday (Oct 24) saw the De Kock score 174 runs at the Wankhede Stadium while also leapfrogging both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the most runs in the tournament.
The opener has accumulated 407 runs to his name at the tournament, with the closest challengers being Kohli with 354, Rohit Sharma’s 311, and Mohammad Rizwan’s 302.
Big-hitting South African Heinrich Klaasen is the team’s second-highest scorer with 288 runs at a strike rate of 150.78 – the fastest scoring rate of any specialist batter at the tournament.
De Kock's stunning effort at the Wankhede Stadium was his third century in five tournament games, following from his 100 against Sri Lanka and 109 against Australia earlier in the month.
On the other hand, De Kock is second on the list of most World Cup centuries for the Proteas behind AB de Villiers (4) and equalled Mark Waugh (1996), Sourav Ganguly (2003), Matthew Hayden (2007) and David Warner (2019) for the most tons in a single edition of the tournament.
Notably, de Kock has now converted each of his five 50-plus scores into hundreds in ODIs in India. He equalled Saeed Anwar's tally of 20 tons and is joint-15th on the list of most centuries in one-day internationals.
De Kock is well on his way to become the first batter to reach the 400-run mark in this World Cup.
15 batters have smashed centuries in this edition so far with de Kock being the only one to hit more than one.
India's run machine Virat Kohli is now at the second position 354 runs from five games at 118.00 average, including one hundred and three fifties.
India skipper Rohit Sharma, who played a handy 46 against New Zealand, features third on the list with 311 runs from five games. Rohit scored his runs at an average of 62.20, with the help of one hundred and one fifty.
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who has so far aggregated 302 runs from five games at an average of 75.50, sits on the fourth place followed by New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra.
