Pro Kabaddi 2022: U Mumba’s rising star, Jai Bhagwan
In the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League, U Mumba have had neither a promising, nor a disappointing start with 2 wins and 2 losses. Currently placed fifth in the league, U Mumba are at a point differential of -2. However, the most encouraging development for the team has been the discovery of Jai Bhagwan, its emerging star. So far in season 9, the Rajasthan born player has scored a total of 24 points. Moreover, this impressive performance has come amid personal tragedy, with the loss of his father prior to the tournament. According to the 18-year-old, this had affected his motivation and reduced his practice sessions, but encouragement from his older brother was instrumental in motivating him to resume them. His father had wished for his son to play matches which would be broadcast on television, and it was the ability to fulfill this dream, as well as his mother’s happiness on doing so, that he cherishes.
Bhagwan has also stood out due to the consistently high level of his performances, which he has attributed to the training for the Khelo India University Games which unfolded in April and May. He was able to carry this form into the pre-season training with U Mumba, as well as the team’s support staff, which granted him opportunities such as playing in the Vivo PKL season. Bhagwan and U Mumba are next be seen in action against the Haryana Steelers.
