Who could be the Player of the Tournament at Asia Cup 2022 ?

The Asia Cup 2022 kicks off soon on August 27. Players will be looking to perform their best, as it could influence team selection for the T20 World Cup later in the year. While India and Pakistan are expected to battle it out for the top spot.

other important contenders include Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh (who, after their recent defeat to Zimbabwe are determined to redeem themselves). Here are 5 players who could win Player of the Tournament, and help lead their teams to glory:

1) SuryakumarYadav : The 31-year-old Indian has delivered impressive performances, including at India’s recent series in West Indies. Ranked second in ICC’s T20I rankings (after Babar Azam), and with 672 runs in 23 T20 Internationals, he has proved himself capable of hitting shots at every corner of the field. Dubbed Mr 360, fans have high hopes for an impressive performance from Suryakumar Yadav in Asia Cup 2022.

2) Babar Azam : If anyone can help the Pakistan cricket team – which has not won any major titles in recent times - to win the Asia Cup, it is Babar Azam. The impressive 27-year-old, who has been compared to Virat Kohli, has managed to consistently maintain his form to score 2686 runs in 74 T20 Internationals. This makes him the top ranked player in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings. He has played well against India in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, and is expected to recreate the feat.

3) Rashid Khan : The lesser known Afghan leg – spinner, is a player other teams have to watch out for. With 10 wickets in 62 T20 Internationals, batting against Rashid has proved to be a challenge for many batsmen. Combined with the conditions in UAE, he could be a major threat for Afghanistan’s opponents, and hence a strong contender for Player of the Tournament.

4) Wanindu Hasaranga : Talented both with the bat, and the ball, Hasaranga is yet to display his talent at a major event. However, with 62 wickets and 382 runs in 38 T20Is, he is among Sri Lankas’s best bets for it’s bid for the title. It remains to be seen whether this multi-talented cricketer can reach his full potential at the Asia Cup 2022, and with 26 wickets in IPL 2022, there are high hopes.

5) Shaheen Afridi : A consistent performer , like Suryakumar Yadav, Shaheen Afridi has dismissed the Indian contingent with ease at the previous T20 World Cup, and continues to be in impressive form. With 47 wickets in 40 T20 Internationals , he will be vying hard to leave a mark and potentially lift his first Asia Cup. Also talented at batting, he will definitely be a crucial member of the Pakistani squad.
