India's badminton sensation, Lakshya Sen, started his journey at the Badminton Asia Championships with a setback, losing in the men's singles opening round to the top-seeded local favorite, Shi Yu Qi.
Sen fought hard but couldn't overcome Qi, losing in straight games in a match lasting over 50 minutes.
Despite his commendable effort, Sen, a bronze medallist at the World Championships, fell short against the higher-ranked Shi Yu Qi.
The 22-year-old showed determination but was defeated 19-21, 15-21 in a tough contest.
The Indian shuttlers had a rough start to the tournament. Priyanshu Rajawat exited early in the men's singles, losing to Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia.
The Panda sisters, Rutuparna and Swetaparna, also faced disappointment in the women's doubles, losing to China's Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu W in the opening round.
