Prannoy and Lakshya progressed into the third round of the BWF World Championships.

India's badminton aces HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen displayed a commanding performance and progressed into the third round in men's singles event of the ongoing BWF World Championships.

On the other hand, former champion PV Sindhu suffered a shocking early exit from the World Championships.

World No.9 HS Prannoy smashed out Chico Dwi Wardoyo by 21-9, 21-14 to secure a spot in the third round. He will face Loh Kiean Yew of Singapore.

Lakshya Sen hardly broke a sweat as he defeated South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin by 21-11, 21-12 and comfortably progressed into the third round. He will now face Kunlavut Vitisdarn of Thailand.

Meanwhile, five-time medallist PV Sindhu’s poor run continued with a straight-game loss to Nozomi Okuhara.

The first game began with both players taking alternate points before Okuhara showed her class taking the lead at the break. After the interval, the Japanese looked in complete control winning the first game by 21-14.

Sindhu looked in great touch from the word go in the second game taking a 9-0 lead. Okuhara then fought back strongly with some lovely shots putting enough pressure on the Indian. The Indians managed to keep 2 2-point lead at the interval.

After the break, Okuhara maintained enough pressure and did not allow Sindhu to come back into the game and won the second game by 21-14 to knock Sindhu out of the tournament. Sindhu was given a bye in the first round.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty and women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will begin their campaign with 2nd round matches as both were given a bye in the first round.
