The MotoGP qualifying round at Aragon provided many interesting hits and misses. With Francesco Bagnaia finishing first, closely followed by Jack Miller and Enea Bastianini, Ducati had impressive performances and are front runners for the race on Sunday.
Aleix Espargaro (4th) – Espargaro had a challenging race, with two falls. However, his team was depending on his performance, as team-mate Maverick Vinales finished 16th. Espargaro was able to recover to finish 4th and while his bid for the title has suffered some setbacks, he remains on track.
Marc Marquez(13th) – The eight-time world champion made a strong start with the second fastest lap time of the weekend. He initially wanted a tow, but on being unable to find one, completed the race on his own. His recovery from his injuries has also been impressive, and hence the 13th finish represents a strong comeback for the racer.
Luca Marini(14th) – Marini had an unimpressive performance as he failed to make it through to Q2. As his rookie teammate outperformed him on an older bike, Marini’s trademark ease of qualifying was missing, and he was unable to finish in the top 10. With his best lap time one second slower than that of Bagnaia, Marini will face a tough race to finish in the top 4 at Misano.
Maverick Vinales(16th) – Vinales also had a forgettable race, as he was unable to improve his performance after FP3. During FP4, he faced multiple issues with his bike, which slowed him down considerably. Finally, at the qualifying round he suffered a crash, which is his first for the season, and finished 16.
Pol Espargaro (18th) – Espargaro finished last among the 4 Honda riders, and 5/10s of a second below team leader Marc Marquez in Q1. His late finish was partly due to a crash late into the race that he did not have time to recover from.
