The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has just unveiled the squad representing India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is indeed packed with talent, leaving little room for some notable players. Despite the strength of the selected team, there were a few players who missed out on a spot.

Experienced campaigners like KL Rahul and promising talents like Rinku Singh were among those who didn't make the final cut.

Let's take a peek at how the players selected in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad performed in the IPL 2024 season (data updated until match 49).

We'll also look at a few players who narrowly missed out on making it to the 15-member squad bound for the USA.

India will kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York.

Rohit Sharma (MI) (captain)- In the ongoing IPL 2024, India's captain Rohit Sharma has scored 314 runs in 10 innings. He recently notched his second IPL century during Mumbai Indians' match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rohit has been in fine form, focusing on getting the team off to a strong start. With an average of 34 and a strike rate of 158.29, he seems poised for a season with over 400 runs this time.

Hardik Pandya (MI) (vice-captain)- Despite being appointed as the captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya didn't have the best IPL performance. He scored 197 runs in 10 innings at an average of 21.88, with a strike rate of 150.38. With the ball, he played 8 matches and took 6 wickets, averaging 42.16 at an economy rate of 11.00.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR)- Yashasvi Jaiswal had a slow start in IPL 2024 but bounced back strongly with a century against Mumbai Indians (MI), a team that includes both the captain and vice-captain of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Currently, he has scored 249 runs from 9 innings, averaging 31.12 with a strike rate of 154.65.

Virat Kohli (RCB)- Even though his team isn't having the best season, Virat Kohli is proving his class once again. Despite facing criticism for his strike rate and performance against spinners, Kohli has scored an impressive 500 runs in 10 innings of IPL 2024, with an average of 71.42 and a strike rate of 147.49. He's also hit a century and four half-centuries this season.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI)- Suryakumar Yadav faced a setback at the start of IPL 2024, missing a few matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) due to fitness concerns after recovering from a sports hernia surgery.

In the 7 innings he's played so far, he has scored 176 runs. While showing flashes of his talent, he hasn't hit top form, with an average of 25.14 and a strike rate of 170.87. Suryakumar has managed two half-centuries in these 7 innings.

Rishabh Pant (DC)- Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals' captain, has made a remarkable recovery from a serious car accident back in December 2022. His return to full fitness is impressive, especially considering he had feared the worst during his recovery journey.

Now back in action as both a batter and keeper, Pant has been in fine form, smashing 398 runs in 11 innings at an average of 44.22 and a strike rate of 158.56 in IPL 2024. He's also notched up 3 half-centuries so far this season.

Sanju Samson (RR)- Sanju Samson has secured his spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 team with an impressive performance in IPL 2024, scoring 385 runs from 9 innings at an average of 77.00 and a strike rate of 161.08. His leadership skills have also been commendable. However, the question remains whether both Samson and Pant can be accommodated in the same starting 11, considering their similar roles as wicketkeeper-batsmen.

Shivam Dube (CSK)- Shivam Dube adds a valuable dimension to India's squad as a medium-pace bowling all-rounder. His place in the starting 11 hinges on his batting prowess and how it complements the team's balance.

Dube has amassed 350 runs from 10 innings in IPL 2024 at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 171.56, including 3 half-centuries. While he's only bowled once in IPL 2024 as an Impact Sub, he proved effective, conceding 14 runs for a wicket with an economy of 6.00.

Ravindra Jadeja (CSK)- Ravindra Jadeja hasn't had the best performance with the bat in IPL 2024, scoring 133 runs from 7 innings at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 164.19. Similarly, his bowling hasn't been as impactful as expected, with 5 wickets from 10 innings so far.

Axar Patel (DC)- Axar Patel has been a key asset with the ball for his team. However, to secure a place in India's Starting 11, he'll need to enhance his batting skills.

Patel has scored 149 runs from 9 innings at an average of 24.83 and a strike rate of 124.16, including a fifty in the season. On the bowling front, he has taken 9 wickets from 11 innings at an average of 29.77 and an economy rate of 7.24.

Kuldeep Yadav (DC)- The left-arm wrist spinner has the potential to be a valuable asset for Team India. He's been in good form, taking 12 wickets from 8 innings in IPL 2024. While he has conceded runs at an economy of 8.45, he's been effective in breaking crucial partnerships with his bowling.

Yuzvendra Chahal (RR)- The all-time leading wicket-taker of IPL 2024 and India's top wicket-taker in T20Is is part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Despite not playing a T20 World Cup game yet, it'll be intriguing to see if he gets a chance this time, especially with Jadeja and Kuldeep likely to be India's main spinners. Chahal has taken 13 wickets from 9 innings in IPL 2024 at an average of 23.53 and an economy of 9.00.

Arshdeep Singh (PBKS)- India's left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has taken 13 wickets in 10 innings during IPL 2024. While his economy rate of 10.01 is a concern, India's confidence in him stems from his previous T20 World Cup experience and strong performances. They expect him to shoulder the fast bowling responsibilities alongside Bumrah and Siraj.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)- India's top fast bowler has had a solid season, even if he's given up a bit more runs than usual. He's been highly effective, taking 14 wickets in 10 innings with an average of 18.28 and an impressive economy of 6.40. He's even grabbed a five-wicket haul this season.

Mohammed Siraj (RCB)- Mohammed Siraj has faced some challenges in IPL 2024 but has retained his spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. With 6 wickets from 9 innings at an average of 53.83 and an economy of 9.50, his performance hasn't been stellar.

However, Team India is banking on his ability to step up, especially with the new ball, during the T20 World Cup.

Reserves:

Shubman Gill (320 Runs From 8 Innings; Average-35.55, Strike Rate Of 140.96)

Rinku Singh (123 Runs From 8 Innings; Average- 20.50, Strike Rate- 150.00)

Khaleel Ahmed (12 Wickets From 11 Innings; Average- 31.58, Economy- 9.47)

Avesh Khan (9 Wickets From 9 Innings, Average- 37.11, Economy- 9.54)
