The 2022-2023 NHL is set to kick off soon and here are three questions the Los Angeles Kings need to figure out:

 1) Can LA continue their rise? The Los Angeles Kings have had several years of unimpressive performances and failed to either make it to the play-offs in the last 3 seasons, or the post season games 5 times in the last 7 years. However, the team have shown considerable improvement in the 2021-2022 season, where they placed third in the Pacific division and almost eliminated the Edmonton Oilers who were eventual finalists. The team for this season is largely the same, with the addition of Kevin Fiala, and with a young group of forwards (only one player is above the age of 30), the LA Kings are expected to put up a spirited performance against rivals in the Pacific Conference such as the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks.

 2) What is the role of the veterans? The Los Angeles Kings are a team anchored by veteran players. This includes the 35-year-old forward Kopitar, the 32-year-old defender Drew Doughty, and the 36-year-old goaltender Jonathan Quick. While these players bring experience and insight into the game, is it ideal to have older players occupy such crucial roles? As past winners of the Stanley Cup, these three players have played a role in mentoring the younger talent. However, they draw a combined salary of $26.8 million. Therefore, the role played by the veterans in the upcoming matches is of utmost importance.

 3) How good is Phillip Danault? The LA Kings and fans alike have high expectations from Phillip Danault in the upcoming season. He is currently one of the best Centre forwards, and scored 27 goals in 79 games last season, with a total of 50 points. Danault is also known for his defensive style of play and with a six-year contract that is valued $5.5 million a year, he is expected to continue a crucial role in the Kings’ performances, without making a large dent in their expenses.
