Will Mayweather and McGregor fight it out again?
A rematch between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather seems
likely again, with the possibility of not just one but two matches. If
successfully arranged, it would first involve a boxing bout, like the Las Vegas
clash between the two legends in 2017.
This would then be followed by an MMA fight. Calls are on
for the fights to be made official, such that they would be included in the
official fight record of both. Mayweather currently has a 50-match undefeated
streak, with his final win against McGregor himself. Since then, he has only
ventured into exhibition matches in 2018 against TenshinNasukawa, in 2021 against
Logan Paul and in 2022 against Don Moore and MikuruAsakura. Mayweather is also
scheduled to take on Deji, a 25-year-old Youtuber, in November.
Meanwhile, McGregor has been inactive in fights
following a broken ankle sustained in a fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021
and is yet to play two remaining matches under his UFC contract. However, this
has not dampened rumours surrounding the rematch, with The Sun reporting that
the proposed fight is expected to potentially involve a contract worth 1.5
billion dollars, with Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia as likely venues, and 2023
being the year the fights are held. Speculations also include a scenario where
Mayweather may decline to fight the MMA match, following the boxing match,
owing to McGregor’s dominance in the game.
