Jhulan Goswami’s unwavering intensity.
Jhulan Goswami is only some weeks away from her retirement, after her final international cricket outing at Lords. However, she continues to train with the intensity that has defined her impressive career, which started after her interest in sports was triggered while watching the 1990 Football World Cup final.
Over the years, she has served as an inspiration to the other cricketers in India’s women’s cricket team, whom she has often towered over both in stature and physique. Now at the final few weeks of her cricket career, Goswami continues to follow a complex schedule which includes her own training sessions, as well as the mentoring of teammates. In the absence of a formal schedule, she is seen to design her own training plan and complete them alone. During her training sessions, she is also seen to mix up all bowling styles and continue practicing deliveries that she has seemingly already perfected. She is also gearing up for a coaching career, as is currently involved at all levels of cricket in Bengal, including the U-16s, and U-19s. With the women’s IPL and an U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup starting next year, Jhulan Goswami’s legacy has no signs of slowing down in its intensity.
