SatwiksairajRankireddy and Chirag Shetty recently won their biggest title yet, the French Open Super 750. This required them to overcome several hurdles along the way, that the World No. 8 ranked duo had failed to conquer earlier.
Satvik puts it down to Chirag’s ability to finish games flawlessly, if provided with a lead. At Paris, the clear demarcatiom of the roles between the two helped provide for a simple yet dominating game from the two.
The Yonex shuttles used in the tournament also benefitted the team who found it slower and easier to control and hit defensive shots with, compared to Victor shuttles used in the Denmark tournament.
Furthermore, Satwik has also found creative ways to hit defensive shots which he previously found restrictive, and coach Mathias Boe has been instrumental in this transition. This was crucial to their partnership too, as a weak defense was causing Chirag, who was providing Satwik with key opportunities to hit kill-shots, to come under fire from the opponents.
Other changes adopted by the duo in their Paris run include cooking their own meals of rice and chicken, due to being accommodated at a hotel that was further away from restaurants theyfrequent.
According to Satwik the cooking kept the player occupied and away from distraction and negativity. Overall, Satwik-Chirag are a dream partnership who have crafted their first French Open win by covering fpreach other’s weaknesses, and duly executing their assigned roles.
