IPL 2023
Teams sealed their spots in the IPL 2023 Playoff.
The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is turning out to be the most entertaining one yet. We're just a few days away from the finals, and there's no certainty regarding the playoffs.
IPL Playoffs 2023 are on the horizon and the four qualified teams have been finalized.
The Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and Mumbai Indians have qualified for the playoffs.
The fourth position on the table was up for grabs till the last league match. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians were most likely to secure the final playoff spot.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's dream of lifting their maiden IPL trophy will have to wait another year. With Shubman Gill leading Gujarat Titans to a 6-wicket victory, RCB are knocked out.
Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who remained at the bottom of the points table for most of the tournament, were eliminated long ago. PBKS and KKR soon followed.
RCB played its final game on May 21 but fell short of winning despite Virat Kohli's remarkable century.
Rajasthan Royals stood a chance of securing the fourth position in the unlikely scenario that both MI and RCB lost their final games, but even then, the NRR would have been the deciding factor.
Unfortunately for RR fans, the team was eliminated after MI won the match against SRH. And since RCB also lost against GT, MI proceeded to the playoffs.
Lucknow Super Giants:
LSG have officially secured the Playoff spot with a 1-run win against KKR. With 17 points from 14 games, LSG has secured the 3rd spot and will play the Eliminator.
Chennai Super Kings:
CSK have qualified for the playoffs. MS Dhoni's side defeated Delhi Capitals to confirm their place in the Top 4. With 17 points, CSK can actually finish in the Top 2.
Gujarat Titans:
The defending champions came back strongly to go on and defeat SRH by 34 runs. And with this win, they have now gone on to register their second successive playoff spot. For the second year in a row, GT has finished on the top with 20 points.
Mumbai Indians:
With 16 points from 14 games, Rohit Sharma & Co thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets and grabbed the fourth spot in the Top 4.
IPL 2023 Playoffs Rules
Four teams at the top of the IPL table after the league games qualify for the playoffs. This has gotten more challenging after the addition of two more teams from IPL 2022.
The top two teams participate in the qualifier 1, and the lower two play the Eliminator 1.
The winner of Qualifier 1 directly proceeds to the finals, while the loser plays against the winner of Eliminator 1 in Qualifier 2.
As such, all teams hope to make it to the top two of the IPL points table to receive two chances of qualifying for the finals.
