The comeback needed by the Yankees

Aaron Boone, manager of the New York Yankees had recently admitted that the current challenge for the team is to “slay the dragon”, represented by the Houston Astros, a team they have recently again lost to 5-0, at the American League Championship Series.

According to Boone, their current priority, following their unimpressive performances in the post-season, which also includes a 2-1 loss to Cleveland, is to focus on the next match and not look too far ahead.

If the Yankees were to stage a comeback at this stage, it would be a historic achievement, given the Houston Astros have defeated them in eight of the 10 games between the two teams this year. Furthermore, a win in the next 2 games means that the Yankees can play matches 6 and 7 at the Minute Maid Park, where they have previously lost eight of all 9 post-season games.

However, according to centre-fielder Harrison Bader, all top performing teams have started at the bottom, and what is most important is to focus on the nine innings of the upcoming match, one pitch at a time. Pitcher Gerrit Cole is more apprehensive of the upcoming game though and expects it to be a closely fought one. Ultimately, Boone is relying on the team’s players to make their individual contributions, whether big, small, or unexpected.
