Dodgers make history with record making 110th win

The Los Angeles Dodgers have become the third team in the National League to win 110 games, a record previously held by the Cubs in 1906 (with 116 wins), and the Pirates in 1909 (with 110 wins). While being a top performing team in the 2022 season was expected, the achievement has come as a surprise as no National League team has done so in over 100 years.

The 110^th win was a 6-4 victory against the Rockies, which involved a comeback, and other MLB teams to equal the record include the 2001 Mariners, the 1998 Yankees, 1954 Cleveland and the 1927 Yankees. According to first baseman Freddie Freeman, it is important to appreciate the effort invested by the team in winning matches almost every night and the record is simply a testimony to the collective achievements due to that effort.

While most of their victories are associated with big hitting, the 110^th win came after a game of patience. After trailing 4-1 in the seventh inning, the Dodgers were able to exploit the incompetency of the Rockies’ relief pitcher at throwing strikes and had soon reduced the gap in the score to one run.

According to manager Dave Roberts, the team made several errors under pressure, but were ultimately able to respond to some tricky pitches from the Rockies with several players contributing to the victory including Joey Gallo, Trea Turner, Mookie Betts, and Trayce Thompson. Moreover, the absence of key players like Justin Turner and Chris Taylor due to injury, did not dent the team performance, demonstrating the depth of the squad, which has just achieved one of the biggest achievements in National League history.
