West Ham has signed Mexico's Edson Alvarez from Ajax for a reported fee of £35m.
West Hammers is delighted to announce the completion of signing Mexico international Edson Alvarez from Ajax for a reported fee of £35m.
West Ham did not disclose terms but Ajax said the two clubs had agreed a transfer fee of €38 million ($41.90m), which could increase to €41m with add-ons.
Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez has become Hammers' first signing of the summer transfer window, with Alvarez's arrival coming after West Ham sold captain Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m.
Edson Alvarez can play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back. Last season the 69-time Mexico international featured 44 times in all competitions for Ajax, who finished the Eredivisie campaign in third place.
He joined the Dutch giants from Club América in the summer of 2019 and has been one of their standout players ever since he joined. This could be an excellent addition for West Ham.
