Newcastle United signed Italy midfielder, Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for £55 million.
Newcastle United is delighted to announce the completion of signing Italy midfielder, Sandro Tonali from AC Milan FC for £55 million ahead of the new season.
Italy international Sandro Tonali agreed with the personal terms and has signed a five-year contract with Newcastle United.
The Italian international emerged as Eddie Howe’s top target early in the transfer window as he looks to bolster his midfield ahead of Champions League football next season.
Tonali, who also attracted interest from Chelsea, is the first of what Newcastle are hoping will be two midfielders arriving at St James’ Park this summer.
An versatile midfielder, Tonali played more games than any other Milan player last season, clocking up nearly 4,000 minutes across all competitions.
Tonali helped guide Milan to their first Serie A title in 11 years in the 2021-22 season and he was a key figure in their run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
Tonali has 14 international caps for the Azzurri and has captained his country during this summer's UEFA Under-21 European Championships.
