Tahith Chong confirmed his move to Luton Town from Birmingham City for a fee of £4m.
Premier League newcomers Luton Town FC is delighted to announce the signing of former Man Utd winger Tahith Chong from Birmingham City in this summer transfer.
Luton Town FC has agreed to pay around £4m to Birmingham City for the winger.
Manchester United have pocketed £1 million from Tahith Chong’s transfer from Birmingham City, thanks to a 25% sell-on clause included in the Dutchman’s contract at St Andrew’s.
The Red Devils sent Chong on a season-long loan deal to Birmingham for the 2021-22 season, before the Championship side paid £1.5m to sign the winger on a permanent deal last summer.
Chong joined United from Feyenoord as a 16-year-old and was tipped for big things, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2018.
However, he found first-team chances hard to come by, playing a total of just 534 minutes in three years and failing to score in 16 appearances.
The forward was unable to set the world alight in loan spells at Werder Bremen and Club Brugge, leading Erik ten Hag to sanction his £1.5million sale to Birmingham last summer, having spent the previous campaign on loan there.
He scored four goals and assisted five in 38 Championship appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.
Once Chong officially joins Luton, he will become the club's record signing.
His transfer fee is more than double what the club paid for striker Carlton Morris last summer.
