Oxford United Add Ter Avest and Marselino to Squad.
Oxford United have secured right-back Hidde ter Avest and forward Marselino Ferdinan on free transfers.
Hidde ter Avest, 27, has signed a "long-term contract" with Oxford United after FC Utrecht chose not to renew his deal.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Indonesian international Marselino Ferdinan, who dazzled with KMSK Deinze in Belgium last season, joins the squad. Marselino has already netted three goals in 26 appearances for his national team.
With these additions, Ter Avest and Marselino become Oxford United’s 13th and 14th signings of the summer transfer window, adding fresh talent and depth to the squad.
Hidde ter Avest started his career at FC Twente, where he played 100 games after debuting in 2015. He then moved to Udinese in Italy for the 2018-19 season, before returning to the Netherlands in 2021 to join Utrecht.
Head coach Des Buckingham praised Ter Avest, saying, "Hidde is a strong personality and a fantastic addition to our team. He’s powerful, fast, and technically skilled, and we believe he will be a key player for us in the future."
Since late 2022, Oxford United has been mainly owned by Indonesian investors Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir.
Head coach Des Buckingham noted, “The club’s strong connections with Indonesia made us aware of Marselino’s potential. Although he's new to this level, his international experience and talent are impressive. It will be exciting to see how he adjusts to life at Oxford United.”
Marselino, who has over 3.9 million Instagram followers, began his career with Persebaya Surabaya in Indonesia. He expressed pride at the prospect of being the first Indonesian-born player in the Championship if selected.
Oxford United will face Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Saturday.
