Burnley agrees to sign goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City for £15m.
The Premier League newcomers, Burnley has officially confirmed to sign England international goalkeeper, James Trafford from Manchester City for an initial fee of £15m.
However, with potential add-ons, the fee could rise to a staggering £19 million for the 20-year-old shot-stopper.
This unexpected move comes as Trafford is currently on international duty with the England Under-21 squad at the European Under-21 Championship.
It seems that Trafford’s time at Manchester City has not allowed him to make a Premier League appearance just yet. Instead, he has been loaned out for the past two seasons, playing in League One for Accrington and Bolton.
Trafford has come through the ranks at the Etihad but there is no pathway for him to become City's No 1 whilst the Clarets can offer him the chance to be a starter in the top flight.
Trafford spent last season on loan at Bolton in League One but has previously made his lofty ambitions known, targeting the biggest competition in Europe, and always appeared open to leaving Manchester if it aided his career goals.
In terms of Burnley’s goalkeeper situation, this signing will add competition to an already talented group.
Manager Vincent Kompany had previously signed Lawrence Vigoroux from Leyton Orient in June, while Arijanet Muric, another former Manchester City player, was the club’s number-one goalkeeper last season.
