Kalvin Phillips: West Ham Secures Loan Deal with Manchester City for Star Midfielder.
West Ham has reached an agreement with Manchester City to bring in England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan for the remainder of the season.
Phillips, aged 28, joined Manchester City in July 2022 with a six-year contract and a transfer fee of £45 million.
However, his playing time under manager Pep Guardiola has been limited, having started only twice this season in all competitions.
Amidst interest from Juventus, Phillips is now set to undergo a medical in London later this week after West Ham secured a loan deal. Personal terms are expected to be smooth, with West Ham covering Phillips' salary, and there's an option for a permanent move.
While various clubs were interested, City's substantial loan fee deterred some, like Newcastle, from pursuing Phillips. He is returning to the UK with the City squad from Abu Dhabi today.
The temporary move to West Ham is a welcome development for manager David Moyes, who aims to bolster his squad due to multiple injuries.
For Phillips, who has had limited game time in the Premier League over the past 18 months, this presents an opportunity to showcase his skills ahead of the European Championship in Germany this summer.
