Raya Completes £27m Arsenal Move Following Loan Season.
Arsenal has exercised their £27 million option to permanently acquire Brentford goalkeeper David Raya following his impressive loan spell last season.
David Raya, 28, secured the Golden Glove by keeping 16 clean sheets for Arsenal in the Premier League last season, conceding just 16 goals.
Despite Aaron Ramsdale's strong performance with 14 clean sheets in all 38 matches the previous season, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta opted for a new goalkeeper option.
Raya signed a two-year contract with Brentford in August before joining Arsenal on a season-long loan.
"After a year as a Gunner on loan, I can now say I'm an Arsenal player for the years ahead," said Raya. "I'm excited about the future but focused on living in and enjoying the present."
Arteta commented, "He has made a significant impact in our squad, and we are delighted to continue working with him. We expect him to build on his strong foundation from last season and achieve further success with us."
Raya had a challenging start to the season, notably making two errors in Arsenal's narrow 4-3 win over Luton in December. However, he missed only two league games, as he was ineligible to play against his parent club Brentford.
