Luton Town has just finalized the signing of Japanese full-back Daiki Hashioka from Sint-Truiden in Belgium. The transfer fee remains undisclosed.
Luton Town has made a groundbreaking move by signing 24-year-old Japanese full-back Daiki Hashioka, marking the first Japanese player to join the club.
Hashioka, with two goals and two assists in 18 appearances for Sint-Truiden this season, expressed his excitement about fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League. I'm so happy to be joining, and I can't wait to play as soon as possible," Hashioka said. He highlighted his strengths in heading, one-versus-one situations, and his eagerness to contribute more goals.
The Japanese player, who had been linked with Leeds, underwent a successful medical with Luton. He is set to be unveiled to the crowd before their upcoming Premier League match against Brighton at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday.
Luton Town's manager, Rob Edwards, praised Hashioka's versatility, noting that he can play anywhere along the backline.
Edwards emphasized Hashioka's positive attitude, desire to play for Luton, and readiness to embrace the challenge of competing in a talented squad.
Hashioka's journey began at his hometown club, Urawa Red Diamonds, where he made 74 appearances in the Japanese top flight.
Following a successful loan spell, his move to Sint-Truiden became permanent in 2022. Now, he is geared up for a new chapter in his career with Luton Town.
