Celtic have signed Denmark captain Kasper Schmeichel to a one-year contract. Schmeichel, who guided Denmark to the last 16 of Euro 2024, joins the club after a successful international campaign.

At 37, Schmeichel was a free agent after leaving Anderlecht at the end of last season. He replaces Joe Hart, who has retired. The Danish goalkeeper, with 105 international caps, will join Celtic’s tour in the United States.

Schmeichel praised Celtic, saying, "Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success." He emphasized, "Celtic is what football is all about."

Best known for his 11 years with Leicester City, where he helped win the Premier League in 2016, Schmeichel previously worked with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, winning the FA Cup and FA Community Shield in 2021.

Schmeichel began his career at Manchester City and had a brief loan spell at Falkirk 17 years ago, followed by short stints at Notts County and Leeds.
