Carlos Baleba confirmed his move to Brighton from Lille for 27m euros (£23.2m).
Brighton & Hove Albion is delighted to announce the completion of signing Cameroon-born midfielder Carlos Baleba from French side Lille for a fee believed to be 27m euros (£23.2m).
Cameroon teenager, Carlos Baleba agreed with the personal terms and has signed a five-year contract with Brighton FC.
Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi said: "Carlos is a very good player. He’s very young but a specific player for our style. He will be the future of the club."
Born in Douala, Cameroon, Baleba joined Lille in January 2022. He started out in the reserves but broke into the first team after impressing coach Paulo Fonseca in pre-season training, playing 21 league matches.
Baleba has operated in the defensive midfield role for Lille but has shown his ability to drive with the ball at his feet and pick out a forward pass.
Baleba is seen as a Moises Caicedo replacement while the club are also interested in Arsenal's Albert Sami Lokonga.
