Ruben Neves has signed for Al-Hilal for a record fee of £47m.
Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal is delighted to announce the signing of Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a club-record fee of £47m.
Wolves captain Ruben Neves has only one year left on his contract with the Premier League club. With his contract set to expire in June 2024, Wolves sold the 26-year-old, rather than renew his contract.
Neves came to Wolves from Porto in 2017 on a rumored £15.8 million deal. At that time, Wolves were playing in England’s second-division league, The Championship. From the first year of his joining, he became an important part of the team.
Neves helped Wolves get promoted to the Premier League as they won The Championship in his first season. He bagged the Player of the Season award in the same season.
He has since been an integral part of the team that now does not fight relegation in the competition.
At the start of the season, Neves was given the armband to lead the team. While it is clear how important the player has been for Wolves, the club also needs the transfer money to ease their Financial Fair Play issues.
