Robert MacIntyre, overcome with emotion, pledged to "celebrate hard" after securing the victory he longed for with a spectacular win at the Scottish Open on home turf, amidst a jubilant atmosphere.
Robert MacIntyre, who narrowly missed out on the title to Rory McIlroy's stunning finish last year, finally clinched victory at the Renaissance Club.
In a late surge, MacIntyre gained four strokes in his final five holes to card a three-under 67, sealing the win with a decisive birdie putt from 22 feet on the last hole.
His score of 18 under par edged out Adam Scott by a single shot, with Romain Langasque finishing third at 15 under.
McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg followed closely behind. Aberg, who led at the halfway mark, struggled to a three-over 73 in the final round.
MacIntyre, now a two-time PGA Tour winner in just six weeks, previously triumphed at the Canadian Open with his father Dougie as his caddie.
However, winning in front of a passionate home crowd was especially meaningful for the 27-year-old. The crowd erupted into 'Flower of Scotland' as MacIntyre sank the winning putt, celebrating his victory with a triumphant roar.
