Professional footballer Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has appeared in court facing charges for trying to import drugs.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, a 33-year-old striker for Greenock Morton, was arrested at his home in Gourock, near Glasgow, on Wednesday. He was then taken to Carlisle for questioning.
The father-of-two didn’t enter a plea at Carlisle Magistrates Court but has strongly denied any involvement in a drug importation scheme, vowing to clear his name in court.
The arrest follows a major drug bust by the National Crime Agency (NCA), which uncovered 60kg of cannabis worth an estimated £600,000 in suitcases arriving at Stansted Airport from Bangkok.
