Rory McIlroy managed to shake off the 'weird feeling' of breaking a club mid-shot during his five-under-par 67 in the opening round of the PGA Championship at Wentworth on Thursday.
Despite a strange incident on the par-five 12th, where the clubhead flew off on impact, Rory McIlroy still managed a birdie at that hole.
He recorded seven birdies in his first round, with only bogeys on the 7th and 18th preventing a flawless score.
McIlroy explained, 'I noticed the ferrule was loose on the 9th, but it turned out the clubhead was coming off. When it happened on the 12th, it felt weird because the club had no weight.'
