Lewis Hamilton has accused FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem of using 'stereotypical' language with a 'racial element' in his efforts to censor swearing during Formula 1 broadcasts.
Ben Sulayem, FIA president, suggested that F1 should distinguish itself from rap music, stating, 'We are not like them.'
Hamilton criticized this, saying the term 'rappers' is stereotypical and has a racial undertone, as many rappers are Black.
Hamilton acknowledged the need to be mindful of younger audiences but disagreed with Ben Sulayem’s choice of words.
The FIA has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Ben Sulayem's remarks were made during an interview where he proposed penalties for swearing over team radios during races.
