India has celebrated its first Olympic medal in shooting thanks to Manu Bhaker, who clinched bronze in the Women's 10m Air Pistol Final. 

Bhaker's remarkable performance not only marks a historic milestone for Indian shooting but also sets a new benchmark for future competitors.

Manu Bhaker triumphed in a fiercely competitive final to secure bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, overcoming strong rivals from South Korea, Y.J. Oh and Y.J. Kim. Bhaker scored 221.7 points, trailing behind Oh's 243.2 and Kim's 241.3.

Having finished third in the qualification round, Bhaker carried her precision into the final, making history as the first Indian female shooter to win an Olympic medal.

PM Modi praised Bhaker’s achievement on X, saying, "Well done, Manu Bhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India."

IOA member Nita Ambani also celebrated Manu Bhaker's impressive achievement on Day 2 of the Paris 2024 Olympics. She said, “What an incredible moment!
