Olympian Apologizes to Wife After Losing Wedding Ring in Seine.

Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi has apologized to his wife after losing his wedding ring during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi, while proudly flag-waving for Italy aboard a boat in the River Seine during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, lost his wedding ring.

The 32-year-old world champion took to Instagram to apologize to his wife, Chiara Bontempi Tamberi, saying, "I'm sorry my love, I'm so sorry."

Tamberi humorously blamed the mishap on "losing too many kilos" and his "irrepressible enthusiasm."

"If it had to happen, if I had to lose this ring, I couldn't imagine a better place," wrote Gianmarco Tamberi, referring to the ring now resting "forever in the riverbed of the city of love." Calling the mishap "poetic," he suggested they throw Chiara's ring in the river too, so they could "be together forever" and have a reason to renew their vows.

Chiara responded under his Instagram apology, "Only you could turn this into something romantic." The couple, married since September 2022, had a sweet exchange over the incident.

Tamberi was waving Italy's flag with three-time Olympic medalist Arianna Errigo when the ring slipped off, bounced off the boat, and disappeared into the river.
