Downie Dazzles on Bars as GB Secures Spot in Final.

An emotional Becky Downie secured a spot in the Olympic uneven bars final and contributed to Great Britain's advancement to the women's team final, despite some shaky moments.

Downie, 32, is competing in her first Olympics since Rio 2016 after missing out on Tokyo 2020. Despite expecting to retire, her belief in winning an Olympic medal on bars kept her going.

The two-time European bars champion waited 11 hours to learn that her score of 14.666 secured her a spot in the eight-woman final, finishing in sixth place.

Downie was emotional at the Bercy Arena, especially since it has been just over three years since her 24-year-old brother's passing, which led her to withdraw from the Tokyo trials.

She mentioned that Tuesday's team final would be particularly emotional as it falls on her brother's birthday.

Downie's excellent bars routine came at a crucial moment for the Great Britain team, who had struggled with falls by Ruby Evans, Alice Kinsella, and an unusual mistake by Georgia-Mae Fenton. They managed to qualify seventh with a total score of 160.830.
