Root Breaks Record with 34th Century as England Edges Closer to Victory.

Joe Root solidified his place as England's top batter by scoring a record 34th Test century, driving his team closer to victory over Sri Lanka at Lord’s.

Joe Root’s second century of the second Test, scoring 103 off 111 balls, surpassed Sir Alastair Cook’s record for the most centuries by an England batter. His innings was both smooth and inevitable, marking his fastest Test century.

Root fell as the last wicket, leaving England all out for 251 and setting Sri Lanka an unlikely target of 483 to level the series.

In challenging evening conditions, Gus Atkinson and Olly Stone each took a wicket, with Root achieving his 200th Test catch.

As light conditions worsened, play was interrupted, and Sri Lanka promoted Prabath Jayasuriya to number four to manage the delay.
