Clegg Secures First Gold with Stunning World Record Performance.

Great Britain's Stephen Clegg clinched his first Paralympic gold medal and set a new world record with a commanding win in the S12 100m backstroke final.

The 28-year-old Clegg finished the race in 59.02 seconds at La Defense Arena. After winning silver and bronze in Tokyo 2021, he described securing a Paralympic gold as "unfinished business."

Clegg joins his sister Libby, who has two golds and three silvers, and brother James, who won bronze in 2012, as medalists for ParalympicsGB.

More medals could be on the horizon for GB swimmers on Saturday, with William Ellard, Poppy Maskill, Olivia Newman-Baronius, and Alice Tai all in strong positions.

Also, 13-year-old Iona Winnifrith, the youngest member of the ParalympicsGB squad, will compete in the SM7 individual medley at 19:10 BST.
