Ange Postecoglou revealed that Tottenham explored signing Ivan Toney before choosing Dominic Solanke. He urged fans not to "rush to judgement" on the £65m striker.
Dominic Solanke, 27, has yet to score in his three appearances for Spurs since joining from Bournemouth in August.
Meanwhile, fellow England striker Ivan Toney transferred to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli from Brentford for £40m on deadline day.
Spurs, with just one win from four Premier League games, face Brentford on Saturday. Postecoglou explained, "We considered Toney, but Dom was the right fit for what we needed."
He downplayed concerns over Solanke's early goal drought, urging fans to stay patient. "No need to rush judgment. He could’ve started strong, scored in all four games, and then hit a dry spell like all strikers do."
