Defending champion Judd Trump faced an unexpected loss in the English Open quarter-finals, falling 5-3 to Wu Yize.
China's Wu Yize, ranked 40th in the world, kicked off with a break of 108 but initially fell behind 2-1 to England's top-ranked Judd Trump.
However, Wu rallied, winning four of the next five frames to become the first player to reach the semi-finals in Brentwood.
Trump, who has 998 career centuries, will have to wait for his chance to become only the third player to reach 1,000, following Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2019 and John Higgins earlier this week.
In the second quarter-final, Northern Ireland's Mark Allen faces England's Chris Wakelin.
Later, England's Mark Selby competes against India's Ishpreet Singh Chadha, while Australian Neil Robertson takes on fellow left-hander Barry Hawkins.
