WBC Expels Garcia Over Racist Remarks.

Ryan Garcia has been 'expelled' by the WBC following a series of social media posts containing racial slurs and Islamophobic remarks.
The governing body took swift action, highlighting its zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and hate speech. This decision marks a significant moment in the fight against racism within the sport.

American boxer Ryan Garcia has been expelled by the WBC for using racial slurs and Islamophobic language on social media. This comes just a month after he was banned from boxing for a year following an anti-doping violation.

Garcia made the offensive comments on X's Spaces platform, which allows for live audio conversations.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman stated, 'Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organisation. We reject any form of discrimination.'

In a now-deleted post, Garcia, 25, apologized, saying, 'I was trolling. I want all the killing to stop. I love everyone. Sorry if I offended you.'

Garcia has not responded to the WBC's expulsion. Previously, after Garcia's one-year doping ban by the New York State Athletic Commission, Sulaiman noted the WBC would not issue its own suspension due to concerns about Garcia's mental health.

The specifics of the WBC's expulsion are not yet clear. BBC Sport has reached out to the WBC for further comment.

Garcia's anti-doping ban followed multiple failed drug tests around his fight with Devin Haney in April.
