Vondrousova Kicks Off Grass-Court Season with a Victory.

Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova started her grass-court season with a straight-set victory over Spain's Rebeka Masarova at the Berlin Open.

The 24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova secured a 6-4, 6-3 win in Berlin and will face Russia's Anna Kalinskaya next.

The Czech, ranked world number six, made history as the first unseeded player to win the Wimbledon women's singles title, defeating Ons Jabeur in last year's final.

Since her Wimbledon victory, Vondrousova has won her last eight matches on grass. In Berlin, she overcame three break points in the first set, taking the lead 5-4 before serving it out.

She carried this momentum into the second set, breaking Masarova's serve twice to establish a 4-1 lead.

Despite a brief comeback from Masarova, Vondrousova closed out the match on her opponent's serve, starting her grass-court season with a strong performance as she prepares to defend her Wimbledon title.
