Thiam Leads Heptathlon Over Johnson-Thompson at European Championships.

After the first two events in the heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson is currently 143 points behind the leader, Nafissatou Thiam of Belgium.

In the opening events of the heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson showcased her skills. She sprinted through the 100m hurdles in 13.66 seconds, finishing seventh in her heat. Following that, she soared to a joint-second-best high jump of 1.83m, tying with her compatriot Jade O’Dowda and securing the fourth spot overall.

However, it's the Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam who's currently dominating the competition.

Thiam sprinted through the hurdles in 13.74 seconds and then soared to an impressive 1.95m in the high jump, catapulting her to the top of the leaderboard with 2,186 points. Her fellow Belgian, Noor Vidts, follows closely in second with 2,078 points, while Italy's Sveva Gerevini holds third place with 2,050 points.

Johnson-Thompson is not far behind, sitting at 2,043 points alongside Croatia's Jana Koscak. O’Dowda, with her strong performances, including a 13.70-second sprint in the hurdles and a solid 1.83m high jump, is in sixth place with 2,037 points.

The excitement continues in the evening session with the shot put and 200m events, while the long jump, javelin, and 800m are scheduled for Saturday. It's shaping up to be a thrilling battle for heptathlon supremacy!
