South Africa Uncertain About Quinton de Kock's T20I Future: 'A Glimmer of Hope Lurks in the Background'.

South Africa remains optimistic that Quinton de Kock will continue playing white-ball international cricket and pursue his ambition of winning a World Cup, as they have not yet received any indication of his retirement from T20Is.

In 2021, de Kock retired from Test cricket and concluded his 50-over career after last year's ODI World Cup.

The T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA was initially thought to mark his final T20I appearance, but national white-ball coach Rob Walter remains hopeful that there could be further opportunities for de Kock in T20Is.

"Quinny's a bit of a mystery. He hasn't made any official retirement announcement. So, we're holding onto that small glimmer of hope in the background," Walter remarked upon returning to South Africa on Thursday. "Quinny sets lofty standards for himself and has dreamt of winning a World Cup for a long time. He's faced setbacks, including the recent final where he was visibly emotional. Whether we'll see him play again, only time will tell."
