Scaling Heights: Team GB's Toby Roberts Aims for Olympic Gold in Sport Climbing at Paris 2024.

At just eight years old, Toby Roberts began his journey into the world of rock climbing by joining an after-school club. Little did he know then that this simple decision would pave the way for an incredible opportunity to compete for an Olympic gold medal.

Ten years have passed since Toby Roberts first embarked on his rock climbing journey, and this summer, he'll have the chance to make history as Great Britain's first male Olympic sport climber.

Roberts earned his spot at the Paris 2024 Games by triumphing in the European qualifying event held in Laval, France. His victory came on the heels of clinching the lead title at the Climbing World Cup the previous year.

Expressing his excitement, the 19-year-old from Elstead, Surrey, said, "I'm so incredibly psyched; it's what I've been training for for so long, and I can't wait to get out there and just enjoy it." While aiming for an Olympic gold medal, he emphasized the importance of focusing on the climb itself rather than fixating solely on the medal.

With parents Tristan and Marina Roberts being avid climbers themselves, it was only natural for Toby to explore the sport at an after-school club in Edgeborough School, Frensham. His initial curiosity soon turned into a passion, leading him to spend over 10,000 hours scaling walls and competing worldwide.
