Rafael Nadal Progresses, but Cameron Norrie Faces Defeat at Madrid Open.

Rafael Nadal secured his spot in the Madrid Open's round of 16 with a tough win against Argentina's Pedro Cachin.

The 37-year-old Spaniard battled through a three-hour, six-minute match to win 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 at the Madrid Open.

This tournament marks Nadal's final appearance on Madrid's clay courts as he anticipates retiring after this season, having won the title five times before.

Nadal's next match will be against 30th seed Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic, scheduled for Tuesday and aiming for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately, Britain's Cameron Norrie was eliminated after a straight-set loss to fifth seed Casper Ruud. Ruud, the recent winner in Barcelona, will face Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the upcoming round.

Despite being broken early in the match and losing the first set, Norrie briefly took the lead in the second set. However, Ruud rallied to secure a 6-2, 6-4 victory, breaking Norrie's serve to seal the win.

In other matches, third seed Daniil Medvedev advanced by overcoming a set deficit to defeat America's Sebastian Korda 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Italian top seed Jannik Sinner is set to compete later on Tuesday against Pavel Kotov of Russia, as he pursues his fourth title of 2024 after winning the Australian Open earlier.
