Pant Tipped as Potential Vice-Captain Replacement for Pandya in T20 World Cup Squad.

According to a report from Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), is not just expected to secure a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup but might also step into the role of vice-captain, potentially replacing Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians (MI).

Pandya started his Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy journey with a bang, guiding Gujarat Titans (GT) to victory in their debut season in 2022. However, his leadership saw them finish as runners-up the next year.

After moving to Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2024 and taking over as captain from Rohit Sharma, Pandya's tenure hasn't been smooth sailing, with the team facing six losses in nine matches.

Pant served as the Indian vice-captain in T20Is until his extended absence following a tragic road accident in December 2022.

In 66 T20Is for India, he's amassed 987 runs with an average and strike rate of 22.42 and 127, respectively. His performance includes three half-centuries, supported by 86 boundaries and 37 sixes. Despite this, his comeback in the IPL has been remarkable.

Playing 11 matches in IPL 2024, Pant has scored 397 runs at an average of 49.63 and a strike rate of 159.44. This includes three half-centuries, 31 boundaries, and 24 sixes.
