O'Donnell: Gold Medal is 'Everything We've Dreamed Of'.

Ireland's Chris O'Donnell described winning the European 4x400m mixed relay title in Rome as "unbelievable" and "everything we've dreamed of."

O'Donnell, Rhasidat Adeleke, Thomas Barr, and Sharlene Mawdsley made history by securing Ireland's first gold medal at the European Championships since 1998.

The team achieved a championship record time of 3:09.92, finishing 0.77 seconds ahead of Italy.

In an impressive performance, the Irish quartet also shattered the national record by 1.61 seconds, with Mawdsley delivering a powerful anchor leg to clinch the victory.

"Unbelievable, everything we've dreamed of," O'Donnell told RTE Sport after the race.

"When I went into the blocks, I felt like I was doing it for the whole country. I wasn't nervous, just really excited seeing my teammates and the support in the stadium. It's incredible, we can't believe it."

Mawdsley, who ran an impressive 49.40 for her 400m leg, described how she overtook an Italian athlete and powered home to secure the win.
