Newgarden Clinches Indy 500 Victory in Thrilling Final Lap of Storm-Delayed Race.

Josef Newgarden secured his second consecutive Indy 500 victory with a thrilling final lap overtake in a dramatic, storm-delayed race.

The historic Indy 500, held at the 2.5-mile oval track in Indianapolis, faced a four-hour delay due to multiple storms. Despite the weather, the 200-lap race finished just before the 20:15 curfew, with the outcome decided on the last lap.

Team Penske's Josef Newgarden overtook Pato O'Ward in a dramatic final move to become the first back-to-back winner of the race in 22 years.

"There is no better way to win a race than that. I've got to give it up to Pato as well," Newgarden told NBC. "He's an incredibly clean driver. He could have easily won this race, too, but it just fell our way and I am so proud of everybody, proud of the whole team."

Newgarden's victory makes him the first consecutive winner since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002, and only the sixth in the race's 108-year history.

Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing finished third. The race was delayed due to heavy rain and lightning in Indiana.
