Linfield and Derry City Endure Heartbreaking European Losses.

Irish Premiership team Linfield and League of Ireland Premier Division club Derry City have both been eliminated from the Europa Conference League in the first qualifying round.

Derry City narrowly lost 3-2 on aggregate to part-time Gibraltarian team Magpies, despite a 2-1 extra-time victory in the second leg at the Brandywell.

Mark Connolly's header gave Derry the lead, but Adam O'Reilly's red card before halftime hampered their chances.

Pat Hoban's goal equalized the aggregate score, but Evan De Haro's extra-time goal secured Magpies' progression to face FC Copenhagen.

Linfield faced a dramatic exit as an 88th-minute goal from Hilmar Halldorsson led Stjarnan to a 4-3 aggregate win, despite Linfield's 3-2 win in the second leg at Windsor Park.

Gudmundur Kristjansson's own goal put Linfield ahead early, and Emil Atlason equalized for Stjarnan.

Matthew Orr and Matthew Fitzpatrick scored for Linfield, but Halldorsson's late goal was decisive, sending Stjarnan through to meet Paide Linnameeskond in the next round.
