Leicester City's Premier League PSR Charge Appeal Denied: A Unique Twist in the Tale.

Leicester City's appeal against the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability charge has been denied by an independent commission.

The independent commission has decided that the Premier League can penalize Leicester City for an alleged breach spanning three seasons up to 2022-23, following a charge in March.

Leicester had argued that, since they were part of the English Football League (EFL) when the charge was issued, the Premier League lacked jurisdiction over them, especially after their relegation in 2023.

Despite this, the commission affirmed that the Premier League can proceed with the charges. Leicester is now appealing this latest decision.

A statement from Leicester City FC said, "LCFC notes the decision of the Premier League Commission. The Club is disappointed with the decision, which does not appear to reflect the wording of the Premier League’s Rules, and has lodged an appeal."

The Premier League confirmed that the appeal had been dismissed. Their statement read, "An independent Commission has dismissed a challenge by Leicester City FC that it has no jurisdiction to consider an alleged breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs)."

Leicester, who returned to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season, were charged in March for an alleged breach of the PSR rules.

At that time, the club expressed surprise and disappointment at the timing of the Premier League's actions, as they were not in the top flight.

The club stated they would defend themselves against any unlawful acts by the football authorities if they seek to exercise jurisdiction where they cannot.
